  • Text-to-Speech Licenses for Windows users who have the Julie Voice Pack installed:

As you are aware, NeoSpeech and AIR provide the Julie voice pack for text-to-speech for students to use on Windows machines with the SAGE tests.  The license agreement between NeoSpeech and AIR was recently renewed and will extend through 2020. However, the current license files associated with the voice packs will expire on May 3, 2017. Therefore, by May 3, 2017, districts will need to copy a new license file to the appropriate folder on Windows machines used for student testing. LEAs do not need to re-install the voice pack itself if it is already installed; they only need to update the license file, or “verification.txt” file.  If this is not done, the Julie voice pack will revert to the demo version.

  • If a student’s writing score does not show up immediately, please check that the writing was submitted. Twenty percent of student writing responses will be selected for human scoring as verification of scoring engine accuracy. These responses will not receive an immediate score but will be scored and reported within five days after submission. If scores do not appear after this time, please contact the SAGE Help Desk.

  • Preparing for Spring Summative Testing

Before beginning Spring 2017 Summative Testing, LEAs should take the following steps:

    1. Ensure that all student testing devices are using a supported operating system.
      1. If using Chrome OS, make sure that devices are updated to release version 56.0.2924.110. This build contains a number of fixes and security updates.
    2. Ensure that all student testing devices have the most recent SAGE Browser.
    3. Review the information on the secure browser page and ensure that any related requirements are met (e.g. disabling fast user switching).
    4. Use the training tests to ensure that student test settings and accommodations are correctly set and that students know how to use them.
      1. If students will be using assistive devices during the test, ensure that they use them during the training test and that all hardware and software is correctly configured.

  • The text-to-speech tracking on Chromebooks running Chrome OS 53 and above is not working. Students are still able to access text-to-speech, however the tracking feature is not working correctly at this time. AIR and Google are working together to resolve this problem as soon as possible. We will keep you updated on our progress.

  • The new Benchmark module assessments are now available to educators through the TA interface and are administered using the SAGE secure browser. The Benchmark reporting system, labeled “AIR Ways Reporting” is also available from the SAGE portal. There are almost 300 Benchmark Module tests available by grade and subject. Please be careful and add to the TA session carefully. LEA administrators can use the testing windows feature of TIDE to assist in managing the availability of Benchmarks.  Note that the new Testlets (created from the SAGE Formative resource bank) will not be deployed today.

The new publicly available Practice Tests are also now available from the SAGE portal’s Training & Practice Sites card.

Questions on how to access or use these new assessments and reports may be directed to the SAGE help desk: sagehelpdesk@air.org or 855-570-7239.
