Announcements

  • ALERT:  Apple has released iOS 11 for iPads. A security risk has been identified on this version of iOS for iPads not managed by an MDM. In these cases, the student could pin a second app on top of the secure browser (similar to picture in picture). Apple is aware of this issue and is working to correct it in a later release.

We recommend waiting to upgrade your iPads until this issue is corrected. In the meantime, USBE has elected to allow iOS 11 and asks that proctors of non-managed iPad test sessions monitor the student’s screens to ensure that there is only one app open during testing.

  • New Grade 6-8 Science Standards – Interim and Benchmark Tests

Due to the newness of the standards and the small size of the question banks, there are no benchmark or interim assessments currently available on the SAGE portal for the new grade 6 – 8 Science with Engineering Education (SEEd) standards.  Once the review process is complete, there will be a training test and practice tests available.  Once benchmark or interim tests become available, we will send out an announcement.  All other elementary (4th and 5th grade) and high school benchmark and interim assessments are available for teachers to use.  If you have any question, please direct them to Scott Roskelley at scott.roskelley@schools.utah.gov

  • Text-to-Speech Licenses for Windows users who have the Julie Voice Pack installed:

As you are aware, NeoSpeech and AIR provide the Julie voice pack for text-to-speech for students to use on Windows machines with the SAGE tests.  The license agreement between NeoSpeech and AIR was recently renewed and will extend through 2020. However, the current license files associated with the voice packs will expire on May 3, 2017. Therefore, by May 3, 2017, districts will need to copy a new license file to the appropriate folder on Windows machines used for student testing. LEAs do not need to re-install the voice pack itself if it is already installed; they only need to update the license file, or “verification.txt” file.  If this is not done, the Julie voice pack will revert to the demo version.

  • If a student’s writing score does not show up immediately, please check that the writing was submitted. Twenty percent of student writing responses will be selected for human scoring as verification of scoring engine accuracy. These responses will not receive an immediate score but will be scored and reported within five days after submission. If scores do not appear after this time, please contact the SAGE Help Desk.
