  • Text-to-Speech Licenses for Windows users who have the Julie Voice Pack installed:

As you are aware, NeoSpeech and AIR provide the Julie voice pack for text-to-speech for students to use on Windows machines with the SAGE tests.  The license agreement between NeoSpeech and AIR was recently renewed and will extend through 2020. However, the current license files associated with the voice packs will expire on May 3, 2017. Therefore, by May 3, 2017, districts will need to copy a new license file to the appropriate folder on Windows machines used for student testing. LEAs do not need to re-install the voice pack itself if it is already installed; they only need to update the license file, or “verification.txt” file.  If this is not done, the Julie voice pack will revert to the demo version.

  • ALERT: Chrome OS 61 and 62 are now available and supported for SAGE testing. However, there is a known issue with TTS tracking within those versions of the operating system. Google is working to resolve the issue, but we recommend waiting to update your Chrome operating system until we notify you that the issue has been resolved. If the Chrome operating systems have already been updated, you can continue to test, but students may experience tracking issues with TTS. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Rathke at kim.rathke@schools.utah.gov.

  • ALERT: Apple has released iOS 11.1 for iPads in the App Store. This version corrects the security risk identified for iPads not managed by a MDM. We ask that any iPads on iOS 11.0 be updated to the new version 11.1 before testing.

If you had waited to upgrade, iOS 11.1 is now available and supported.

  • Science Sample Clusters:

Sample clusters for all grades including 6-8 are available by clicking here.

Please note that these might not align to Utah standards but allow you to get familiar with the concept of science clusters.

SAGE science grades 6 – 8 practice tests aligned to Utah standards will be available shortly.

Please direct any questions about the samples to Scott Roskelley at scott.roskelley@schools.utah.gov

  • ALERT:  Apple has released iOS 11 for iPads. A security risk has been identified on this version of iOS for iPads not managed by an MDM. In these cases, the student could pin a second app on top of the secure browser (similar to picture in picture). Apple is aware of this issue and is working to correct it in a later release.

We recommend waiting to upgrade your iPads until this issue is corrected. In the meantime, USBE has elected to allow iOS 11 and asks that proctors of non-managed iPad test sessions monitor the student’s screens to ensure that there is only one app open during testing.

  • Preparing for Spring Summative Testing

Before beginning Spring 2017 Summative Testing, LEAs should take the following steps:

    1. Ensure that all student testing devices are using a supported operating system.
      1. If using Chrome OS, make sure that devices are updated to release version 56.0.2924.110. This build contains a number of fixes and security updates.
    2. Ensure that all student testing devices have the most recent SAGE Browser.
    3. Review the information on the secure browser page and ensure that any related requirements are met (e.g. disabling fast user switching).
    4. Use the training tests to ensure that student test settings and accommodations are correctly set and that students know how to use them.
      1. If students will be using assistive devices during the test, ensure that they use them during the training test and that all hardware and software is correctly configured.
